Recently, China has taken steps to improve the quality of dairy products. On Sept 16, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs banned the use of reconstituted milk (复原乳) in making sterilized milk (灭菌乳), which is often called room-temperature pure milk. Sterilized milk must now use only raw milk as the main ingredient. Reconstituted milk, usually made by mixing milk powder with water, loses many nutrients due to multiple heat treatments. The new rule will help raise the quality of pure milk and strengthen China’s dairy industry, noted China Daily.
