South Korea’s universities have begun turning away students who have a history of school bullying (霸凌). In the 2025 admission period, six of the country’s top 10 universities rejected (拒绝) 45 such students. In 2024, about 2.1 percent of students, or one out of 50 children, said they had experienced school bullying, according to The Korea Herald. The problem of school bullying used to be seen as a private dispute (纠纷) and teachers were encouraged to mediate (调解) instead of punishing anyone. But starting next year, all universities will consider school bullying records in their admissions.
