
With an estimated (估计的) population of nearly 42 million residents, Indonesia’s capital, Jakarta, has become the world’s most populous (人口众多的) city, according to a new UN report released in November. Bangladesh’s capital, Dhaka, ranked second with 36.6 million people, while Japan’s Tokyo took third place with 33.4 million. The new ranking speaks to the rapid urbanization across the world, with cities now housing 45 percent of the global population of 8.2 billion, said the report.
